Position Description A working leadership role responsible for directing, supervising and coordinating the activities, operations and maintenance of the street system, sanitary storm drain system and snow removal for the City.
Major Areas of Responsibility Maintaining the city street system, sanitary storm drain system, snow removal program and general maintenance duties.
Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various programs, prepares facilities for use.
Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Requirements Graduation from a High School or GED equivalent, experience in asphalt and concrete repairs, traffic signal systems, sanitary storm drain systems or related work.
Any equivalent combination of related education and experience Valid Driver"s license is required with the ability to obtain a CDL driver"s license Class B with air brakes and tanker endorsement within 60 days of start date.
Knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in asphalt and concrete; knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do repairs; knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
Skill in operation of: motorized equipment—backhoe, front loader, motor grader, mini excavator, dump trucks, trailers, miscellaneous hand and power tools for maintenance, and electrical work.
Ability to: work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; communicate orally and in writing; use equipment and tools properly and safely; understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
Job Scope Primary Goals and Objectives: - Working knowledge of asphalt and concrete repairs.
Working knowledge of sanitary storm drain system and appurtenances.
Working knowledge of traffic signal systems.
Possess a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent communication, organizational, supervisory, and public relation skills.
Complete tasks as assigned with the city.
Ensure effective and efficient use of time.
Physical Demands (put an * next to essential functions) Frequently required to walk and stand for extended periods of time* Ability to frequently lift and or move up to 50 lbs.
* May occasionally lift weights up to 100 lbs.
* Ability to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, and operate objects, tools and controls* Ability to reach with arms and hands* Occasionally will climb, balance, stoop, crouch, kneel and crawl.
* Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
* Ability to speak and hear and communicate effectively* Reasonable accommodations may be made.
Work Environment Frequently works near moving mechanical parts Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions to include frequent exposure to heat or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.
Frequently works in heavy traffic areas and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
Noise levels in the work environment is frequently loud.
