*General Laborer Job Description *
*Position Title: General Laborer *
*Position Summary: *
The primary responsibility of the Laborer is to perform all railcar repair support work (cleaning, debris removal, rough demolition) to accomplish expediting the repair work needed.
This work is accomplished through the use of brooms, shovels, breaker bars and may include; hand tools, cutting torches, welding equipment and yard equipment.
Work is of a physical nature and involves kneeling, bending, and stooping.
*Tasks: *
* Performs various manual tasks as a general laborer to assist in unloading trucks, railcars and upkeep of rail terminal facility.
Fosters teamwork, positive work environment and overall safety of self and others.
* All work must conform to customer expectations and company policy and procedures.
* Ability to take direction and supervision.
* Ability to interpret directions and/or instructions.
* Complete assigned tasks utilizing: Front End Loader, Backhoe, Crane, Forklift, Sweeper and Skid Steer – Broom and Shovels
* Demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.
* Follow written and verbal directions to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
* Read, write, and communicate in English & understand basic math.
* Learn from directions, observations, and mistakes and apply procedures using good judgment.
* Work independently or as part of a team and interact appropriately with others.
* Self-motivated with ability to complete projects with minimum direct supervision.
* High level of attention to detail.
* Other duties as assigned.
*Skills: *
* Able to stand for long periods of time with limited breaks.
* Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and team lift up to 150 pounds.
* Work in extreme temperatures and elements for an extended period of time.
* Must be able to work in confined spaces.
* Must be able to work at elevated heights.
* Must be able to read and comprehend basic drawings and scope of work.
* Must possess basic math skills, addition, subtraction
* Dependable and Teachable
*Experience and Education:*
* High school education or general education diploma (GED or High School Equivalence Certificate).
* At least 2 years of verifiable work experience.
