*Position summary: *
Mechanical Foreman needs to be familiar with railcar tank car repairs and hopper car repairs, including wreck repairs.
May be needed to perform railcar repairs from time to time.
Must be able to climb and enter confined spaces.
Must be able to communicate with repair shop personnel and other shop employees.
Must be able to complete daily car status report.
*Tasks: *
• Schedule and set up Mechanical repair shop daily.
• Assign daily mechanical jobs to employees.
• Interpret work orders, procedures, the AAR field and drawings.
• Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
• Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
• Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits.
• Examine workpieces for defects, and measure workpieces with templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
• Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
• Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications, or types and thicknesses of metals.
• Detect faulty operation of equipment and/or defective materials, and notify Production Manager.

• Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
• Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torches, straightening presses, and hand tools.
• Mark and/or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
• Position and secure workpieces, using hoists, cranes, wire, and banding machines or hand tools.
*Skills: *
• Familiar with the FCAW, SMAW and GMAW welding processes, and welding tools.
• Mechanically inclined.
• Able to stand for long periods of time with limited breaks.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and team lift up to 150 pounds.
• Work in extreme temperatures and elements for an extended period of time.
• Must be able to work in confined spaces.
• Must be able to work at elevated heights.
• Must be able to read and comprehend basic drawings and scope of work.
• Must possess basic math skills, addition, subtraction.

*Experience and Education: *
• High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate); 3 years railcar repair experience.
