ORG/JOBS* *USD 379 – Position Description* *Clay County School District* *Position Title: *Paraprofessional *Status: *9 month – Benefit Eligible *Department: *TLEC classrooms *Reports to: *Building Principal and Special Education Director *FLSA Classification: *Non-exempt *Wage Determination: *Classified Hourly Schedule – Determined by qualifications and experience *Board of Education Approved Date:* *Summary: *The instructional paraprofessional assists the special education instructor in creating a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of special education students.
To accomplish these tasks, the instructional paraprofessional works closely with the staff and administration of the Twin Lakes Educational Cooperative and USD 379.

72-5213 * Current Driver’s License (Kansas Preferred) * Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable *Supervisory Responsibility: *NONE *Essential Duties and Responsibilities:* * Regular Onsite Attendance * Assist in facilitating the personal, social, and intellectual development of special education students * Assist in establishing a positive learning environment, and respond to the individual needs of special education students * Ensure all activities conform to district policy and procedure * Utilizes time constructively and effectively * React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned * Appropriately operate all classroom equipment * Maintain confidentiality of interactions during duty day * Support the philosophy and mission of the cooperative and school district * Assist with personal hygiene of each child * Display tolerance and understanding of all children * Seek advice and assistance in improving/developing skills * Serve as a role model for children in behavior, appearance and grooming * Display adaptability in new situations * Respond positively to constructive suggestions for improvement * Avoid criticism of children, the teacher and the school except to go to the proper person for a positive change * Gives adequate notice of absences by reporting to Supervising Teacher, Principal and/or Special Education Director *General Responsibilities:* * Display fairness and impartiality to all students * Display consistent ability to positively motivate student * Seeks advice/assistance in improving and developing skills * Serves as a role model for children in behavior, appearance, and grooming * Display dependability and punctuality in attendance * Display good judgment in decision making situation * Interact in a professional manner with all other staff * Display familiarity with general characteristics of exceptional children * Escort/transport students safely to and from various school facilities and areas in accordance with approved training * Provide instructional response choices that encourage students to think for themselves * Participates in professional activities such as staff meetings, workshops, and in-service activities * Carries through with instructions related to methods or techniques to be use with students * Communicates with students clearly, accurately, and consistently * Other duties as assigned by the instructor, principal, or director of special education *Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:* * Requires prolonged standing, sitting and use of equipment including repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue * Requires stooping, bending and reaching and lifting occasionally up to 100lbs * Ability to work inside and outside under various climate conditions * Must work in stressful environment depending on outside variables with numerous interruptions _The information contained in this job description is for compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (A.
